Brandon Lawrence, Principal of the Ballett Zürich

Originally from the United Kingdom, Brandon began training at a very young age in classical ballet excellence. He received rigorous training, developing his virtuosity at the Royal Ballet School in London.

Shortly after graduating, he signed his first professional contract in 2011 with the Birmingham Royal Ballet. He quickly rose through the ranks to Principal Dancer, a position he held for over a decade, until 2023.

During these years, Brandon established himself as one of the leading performers of his generation and embodied many iconic roles from the classical repertoire. Alongside this major repertoire, he developed his artistic versatility, performing works by Carlos Acosta, as well as creations by Edward Clug, Jiří Kylián, Juliano Nunes, Twyla Tharp, and Uwe Scholz.

The 2023/2024 season marked a new turning point in his career: Brandon became a Principal Dancer with Ballett Zürich, further expanding his repertoire through creations by Cathy Marston, as well as works by Marco Goecke, Wayne McGregor, Jerome Robbins, William Forsythe, and Crystal Pite.

An international guest artist, Brandon also performed in South Africa with the Cape Town City Ballet in 2022, with Cape Ballet Africa, and at the Havana Ballet Festival in 2024. In 2025, he returned to the Birmingham Royal Ballet as a guest Principal Dancer for a tour in Japan. That same year, his career was recognized with the “Dance Prize of the Friends of Ballett Zürich,” an award celebrating his remarkable artistic journey.
